Landscape Architectural design for the SAN DIEGO CONVENTION CENTER with renown Canadian Architect Arthur Erickson & Associates.
The landmark award winning structure won numerous awards for its stunning architecture. The site overlooks San Diego Bay with views of the bayfront marina, Coronado Island and the Coronado Bay Bridge. The landscape architectural design includes the King Palm lined Harbor Drive Streetscape Design and over 1 – acre of Roof Gardens on multiple levels of the San Diego Bay terraces. Special consideration was given to integrate the landscape materials into a variety of structural and environmental conditions while complementing the dynamic architecture & providing flexibility in spatial usage.
The rooftop Sail Pavilion Exhibit space features of the largest tensile structures in the world. Extending the length of the sail pavilion of two sides are 300′ foot long barrel vaulted metal trellises with stainless steel cable mesh. Bougainvillea vines, Scarlet Trumpet Vines and fragrant Japanese Star Jasmine were selected for the built-in structural beam planters to create a “green” vibrant accent to the Sail Pavilion structure. The scope of work included planting, irrigation, custom built-in planters, one hundred custom designed architectural pots, site lighting, custom architectural “green screens”, hardscape terraces and rooftop planter drainage.
